Jean and Cécile have long been admirers of Jean Vanier, and in May (not long after Vanier's death) they send me a copy of "Becoming Human." I waited until last month to read it, just before writing about him and his book in this article.<br /><br />I much appreciate the kind gift from Jean and Cécile.LKSeathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08860725174433173015noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8355086750486200439.post-32406773069539907762019-09-12T07:12:47.780-05:002019-09-12T07:12:47.780-05:00My first psychology questioned whether people with...My first psychology questioned whether people with severe disabilities were truly human. Especially Down syndrome. But he also questioned the time when one becomes human. At least not before 2, probably not before 5. My Child Psych prof had a much higher view of humanity. I was talking with a neighbor who is a neonatal nurse last weekend. Viability outside the womb is now 20 weeks gestation (although usually followed by a life of disability), and reconstructive surgery in utero has been here for a while. But Virginia now views life as beginning some time after birth. Europe now euthanizes people. What is human? Who is worth saving, or allowed to live?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8355086750486200439.post-40252446490342371102019-09-11T17:14:20.425-05:002019-09-11T17:14:20.425-05:00Comments from Thinking Friend Tom Nowlin in Arkans...Comments from Thinking Friend Tom Nowlin in Arkansas:<br /><br />"Thank you as always!
